It is with great sadness that we share the passing of our Executive Director Gene Brady. Gene was a wonderful, uniquely talented person. He had a business mind and a non-profit heart. He was thoughtful and driven about helping others-whether it be family, friends or tens of thousands of people he did not know.

He leaves behind at CEO, an extremely able and dedicated staff. We are certain the staff with the Board’s guidance and the continued support our community, will carry on CEO’s great work as a People Helping People organization, which is exactly what Gene would want.

Gene's family requests memorial contributions in lieu of flowers to CEO's Weinberg Northeast Regional Food Bank Expansion Project.

Over the past two years, during the extreme needs and increase in demand for food assistance caused by COVID, we have come to realize that an expansion to the Food Bank facility is necessary to meet the needs of the community. In 2020, the Food Bank distributed over 19.5 million pounds of food - a 7 million pound increase over 2019! If we did not have access to donated space outside the Food Bank building, we could not have kept up with the need for food in our community. As we look to the future, we must plan for a more permanent solution to space concerns. An addition of 15,000 square feet, added onto our existing distribution center, will give us the space we need to continue doing the work of feeding hungry families, children and seniors.

With Gene's leadership and foresight, we have a plan in place to complete this expansion project over the coming year. Contributions will ensure Gene's legacy of feeding the hungry in Northeast Pennsylvania, will live on.
