Meet Dan

Dan lives in the house where he grew up.  He worked his entire life mainly in machine shops.  His wife passed away over seven years ago so Dan has to live off of his social security payment of $937/month.

After a severe stroke in 2013, Dan remained hospitalized for five months and he still receives physical therapy today. Dan also suffers from diabetes and high blood pressure. Some months, he had to choose between medicine and food.

In 2014, Dan learned about the Commodities Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) for those at least 60 years of age.  He receives a box of food and cheese each month from the Weinberg Northeast Regional Food Bank.  The box has been a lifesaver for Dan because, with this extra food, he can keep his cupboards full and not worry about choosing food over his important prescriptions.
